Newcomer here. Was recommended to this site today by Scarlet at AO3 and have already found a treasure! :) I like this story on multiple levels. I love case fic in general and as others have already mentioned, I do enjoy Scully taking charge of a case and in essence, ditching Mulder, and leading an investigation that the higher ups had determined he lacked the objectivity to deal with. "Paper Hearts" is very fertile ground for an in-between fic. So that make perfect internal sense as far as the series goes.

The ending the author chose is interesting to me in that even after Mulder (intuitive leaping genius) appears, it is still very much Scully's case and Scully's deep investigative background and insight that drive and solve the child's disappearance. Given that this is something of a breakthrough for her, I thought the ending was a bit cursory, more poetry than process. But that's my personal taste. As a whole it fills me with joy as of late I have been too much mired in weird slash fic that made no internal sense whatsoever. Overall this is very well done. Secret love also goes out to the brief, testy Skinner interlude with Mulder. That was hilarious and delicious simultaneously!
