I thought "Night Giving Off Flames" would be an interesting choice to follow "Machines of Freedom." At first glance, they couldn't be more different in style, tone, and structure. But both stories address an important theme in our fictional universe: how loss can change our world-view, our sense of self, even our destiny. I think it's one of the best in The X-Files fandom in the post-colonization genre.

You can read it at Gossamer, under Jesemie's Evil Twin, or follow my links to [livejournal.com profile] jetfic.

"Night Giving Off Flames" Part One and Part Two.

Please leave feedback for the author: I still live in hope that she will finish the sequel to "Small Lives Awake." The nomination post is always open for business. Stay tuned for "Left Standing" by Maidenjedi, "Heated" by Joann Humby and "Prison of Innocents" by jrfpatton.
