There are 274 stories listed under "Millineum" at Gossamer in the episode listings. By comparison, "The Walk" has one, and "Requiem" has 1,093. I will not pretend to having read them all or even to having glanced at them. I was looking for a fic that I remember liking when I'd read it, and I found it, although under her earlier fandom name, bravenewcentury. Her writing is flowing and graceful, her dialogue sounds like it was penned by the series' best writers. It's a nicely done series of relationship progression vignettes. To me, Mulder and Scully are at their sexiest when they're brainy and [livejournal.com profile] sixpences writes them as very smart indeed.

Read "Without Speaking, Confess" at LiveJournal | at AO3 | at her page at Gossamer; scroll down to read the fic.

Please leave feedback for the writer; she once told me she had a long pre-IWTB fic in the works, and wanted to try her hand at a case file. You never know who can be coaxed back into a fandom or when or why. Let us know what you thought of the story, too. And please leave your suggestions for further reading in the nomination post.

Happy new year!

I didn't think it had been that long since I last posted here, but I see LiveJournal has changed the posting format. Again. Well, I guess we'll see how it goes. It looks like I have to insert my own paragraph breaks now. Lovely. Or maybe I can't make them at all?

This story was suggested by [livejournal.com profile] estella_c. It has a holiday component; however, merry it's not. But it's [livejournal.com profile] jetfic so it's well-written, original, poignant, etc.

Summary: "When stars are in the quiet sky, the most I pine for thee," —Edward Buward Lytton. Or Mulder and Scully at bedtime. Overall, it's less smutty than it sounds. (Sorry)

Category: Oddness, M/S. Post-ep For a Good Portion of Season Seven in Fewer Than 13 Pages With Less Than a Point Than Usual.

Spoilers: Yes, through "All Things."

The author is still on LiveJournal so you can pm her feedback. I believe her email is current. The link is to her old site, waybacked, but this story is also available at Gossamer under Jesemie's Evil Twin.

Let us know what you think and please keep the suggestions coming.

I've been wanting to rec this fic for years; however, I must warn you: this is not the usual, cheery, feel-good holiday story, nor is it the sort of story we've come to expect from Kel. There are not many fic writers who can create believable, compelling original characters the way Kel can. Her narrator, now an adult with children of her own, recalls a traumatic day she spent at the Mulders, specifically the Thanksgiving immediately following Samantha's abduction.

Don't forget to send feedback to the author, I know she'd appreciate it. The nomination post is always open for your suggestions. I'm especially interested in holiday stories right now.

Happy Thanksgiving Day to those who'll be celebrating next week.

It's still October 31 on my coast, so I feel fine about posting a Halloween story. In honor of our dynamic duo winning the Shipper Cage Match, I am posting some "Halloween (mind) Candy." No spoilers.

Sally says: Yeah, didn't think we could pull it off, didja? No deaths, no major traumas, just some harmless fluff—flirtin' and fuckin' as my granny used to say. Weird family, I'll admit. Speaking as one who has partied in a cemetery on more than one occasion, you can't beat it—they're quiet as the grave.

The link is to AO3, but you can also read this at either author's page at Gossamer if you prefer plain txt. If you do read at AO3, don't forget to hit the Kudos button on your way out. Even visitors can leave a kudo.

Read "And Dance by the Light of the Moon."

Happy Halloween!

It's a good thing we just got finished with an apocafic, because this year we're going to have two fics for Christmas and they're both sweet and generally happy little stories. Everyone is welcome to comment on both, or only one, in either order, at any time.

The first one is an AU season 9-ish fic in which Mulder and Scully spend Christmas together with their infant son. It's also probably the most homey, domestic fic I'm ever going to rec. *g* But don't let my Scrooge impression scare you off. It's nice, and there's an interesting little twist to Mulder and Scully's world, amidst all the domestic bliss.

Epiphany by Maybe Amanda

In the second fic, Mulder and Scully spend Christmas Eve stranded while on the road. It's set in any one of the early/mid seasons, and it's nothing complicated, just a sweetly romantic little vignette.

How to Fly by Oracle

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate, and seasonal well wishes to all who don't.

For Thanksgiving three years ago [livejournal.com profile] wendelah1 posted JET's widely loved holiday fic, "Small Lives Awake." It happens to be the first fic I ever commented on, here at the book club, which makes me feel rather delighted to have the privilege of posting my own choice of Thanksgiving fics this year, this one also by JET.

"Relic of Tough Weather" was written and is set in November, 1999, shortly after the events of TSE:AF. Though it doesn't have the length or popularity of "Small Lives Awake," it is a distinctive blend of JET's signature style: evocative prose and compassionate characterizations.

Relic of Tough Weather

JET's still around, to some extent; I'm sure she would appreciate the feedback. And, as ever, our nomination post is open for recommendations.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone celebrating the occasion.

Our second Halloween fic this year is "Through the Fire," a very distinctive AU that basically incorporates a little bit of everything into the mix.

In this universe Mulder has been imprisoned for several years on false charges, and Scully has continued their work in his absence. Now she must cope with a dangerous case - an MoTW with its roots at the heart of the mytharc - while also coping with a sudden change in Mulder's circumstances. It's a tense, unusual, and downright creepy fic with an M/S dynamic that's intense and quite lovely. Diana, Jeffrey Spender, and Skinner also have parts to play.

Through the Fire

Oh my god, you guys, I'm SO SORRY! Anyone who downloaded the text file of the fic missed chapter 6! My face is literally in my palms. I read the whole fic and didn't even realize I'd missed an entire chapter, and from the looks of things an important one. I only just realized it now.

That is, from what I can tell, the only place the fic is posted. If the format (which is seasonally cute, but also rather visually loud) bothers you, I've uploaded the fic as one complete Word file, which you can download here.

Happy Halloween, everyone! And season's greetings to anyone who doesn't celebrate.

It's nearly Halloween and [livejournal.com profile] amyhit has been hard at work searching for some holiday fic for your enjoyment. "Other Night" by Punk is well-written, light-hearted genfic with a side of UST. Read it fast because [livejournal.com profile] amyhit is going to post another Halloween story in few days time, something with a little more substance. Life is short and so is this story; let's enjoy Punk's not-quite-a-Mulder-and-Scully-romance.

Title: Other Night
Author: Punk Maneuverability
E-mail: punkm@teleport.com
Category: Mulder/Scully UST
Rating: G

"But, but...we just read a story by [livejournal.com profile] syntax6!"

I know, I know...but she's such a great writer and I know you'll love it. The premise is a little silly but in a really adorable way. Besides, it is a pure pleasure to watch her work, avoiding every possible misstep and keeping Mulder and Scully completely in character. As always during this time of year, I am looking for something humorous for distraction. Maybe you are, too. For me, "Mistletoe Madness" fits the bill: it's a charming, funny, light romantic comedy, increasingly rare in a fandom that thrives on angst.

Read "Mistletoe Madness".

Those of you who can't get enough of the genre can go read holiday fic at The Xmas Files. Click on "Holiday Reading." I've only read a handful of these. Anyone care to suggest a personal favorite?

Keep an eye on [livejournal.com profile] xf_santa for some new, if not necessarily holiday-themed fanfiction.

Feedback is how we give back to our writers. Leave suggestions for stories and themes at the suggestion post.

Happy Holidays!

These two short stories by Syntax6 were written last year as a gift for MaybeAmanda, and were supposed to be the beginning of a series. I am still hoping they will be.

These are not holiday fluff, so if you would rather read that instead, go to The Xmas Files and try Blue Christmas by Plausible Deniability, or Black Cherry Velvet by Michelle Kiefer or any number of the stories archived there.

If you want more serious Christmas fic that might fit into canon, I loved Bardsmaid's The Night Before.

What I found I wanted to reread this year were these two tender, poignant stories, one set in season one, when their partnership is still new, and one in season two, set before Scully returns to the X-files division, after her abduction. If we all give Syntax6 feedback, maybe she will write us another one.

Because it is Thanksgiving week here in the USA, I have decided to post a lovely piece of holiday fic, "Small Lives Awake" by JET (her fic journal was [livejournal.com profile] jetfic, now deleted). It is AU, MSR, NC-17, with spoilers for everything through Je Souhaite. Mulder and Scully go to visit Charlie and his family for the holiday. There is a gentle, non-threatening little x-file, flurries of tiny snowflakes, bread baking and pie eating, and lots of love. Happy Thanksgiving!

I was going to post a long, long casefile this week, because it's next in line. Then I changed my mind. It's nearly Halloween, as [livejournal.com profile] estella_c reminded me, so here instead is her rec for this charming tale by Oracle.

Classification: SRA
Rated: PG-13
Key Words: Mulder/Scully romance, sallie safe. Spoilers: Duane Barry, Ascension, One Breath Disclaimer: So sue me.
Archive: Gossamer, please. Email me before archiving elsewhere. I don't see why I'd refuse.
Summary: "We'll be partying all night long, anyway," says Mulder, planning to take her home as soon as she yawns. "Right?" "You got it."
