Story 192: “Hardball” by Missy Pennington

For this week’s fic, wendelah1 and I thought something light and fun was in order, and while there are any number of fics I could have chosen, I decided to do something truly wacky and rec a fic built on one of the most mocked fanfic premise of all time: the FBI formal dance.

Now it is possible that I’m insane, but there is method to my madness. I read this fic several years ago when it was being recced at Mulder, She Wrote as "maybe the only decent dance formal fic ever written," or something to that effect. In memory, it has all the hardcore tropiness the premise suggests, while still being written well enough to actually be fun.

There’s formal wear, there’s dancing, there’s UST, there’s miscommunication, there’s jealousy, there may or may not be intoxication (I can’t remember, but there probably is), the lone gunmen get involved, heck, even Phoebe Green makes an appearance! C’mon, try it. You might like it.
