Well, we agree that it's a wonderful story. And I was mistaken about your take on Scully. But I realize I see this differently from you. I perceive Scully--and remember that her religion is something she will never repudiate--as refusing to examine the implications of her situatiion. Instead she fantasizes about the perks, and I find that inauthentic. If she is anxious for experiences, she should be throwing herself into them. But she loiters in the Files with her partner. You and Idella may feel that she is not in love with him. I prefer to believe she is, but it hardly matters as her attachment has bound her to him. I think her final epiphany of isolation is very terrible and very moving. Love is love, and endless life without it is the very definition, a religious one in fact, of hell.
