As you will know, at [livejournal.com profile] xf_book_club we pick a new story every week (or so). What this means is that we tend to focus on stories that take a full week to read and discuss--in other words, longish stories.

Well, we think it's time for a change. There are lots of great vignettes and short pieces in the X-Files fandom, and they deserve their due as well.

So... we're planning something that for lack of a better term I'm calling Short Story Week. It will be a week (or so) where we discuss a different short story every day. But first we need your suggestions! Bring us drabbles, vignettes, one-shots, anything as long as it's the sort of manageable length that you can read in one easy sitting.

ruuger: John Doggett and Monica Reyes from The X-Files with the text: "The truth is out there" (Doggett & Reyes - Truth is out there)

Sounds great - I haven't had time to read any of the longer stories, so I haven't been able to join the discussions yet, but with shorter stories I might have better luck :)

Here's few suggestions of "next gen" stories to the mix ;)

Mixtape Biographies: A Year in Words by [livejournal.com profile] winterbaby (Mulder, Scully, Skinner, Doggett, Reyes & Follmer)

The Empty Corners by cgb (Scully/Reyes)

What's Left Is Magic by Not jenny (Scully/Reyes)

A Spanish Fairytale by Vanessa Nichols (Doggett/Reyes)

Oh, yes! Zuffy's Night Song. It's one of my favorites of all time because of the way she captures that sense of... well, almost of whimsy that sometimes fits around the edges of the X-Files. Actually, before I clicked in here I was going to recommend it, but obviously someone beat me to it.

While I've got whimsy on the brain, I'd strongly recommend Oil (http://www.iyam-fic.com/ratales/oil.html) by Eodrakken Quicksilver. One of the most unique fics I've come across. I have a very small folder of saved fics, but both of these are in it.

Hello! Newbie here, but I have a couple of recs, because I can't ever keep my fat mouth shut. Sort of oldies, but very goodies.

The Mourning After (http://fluky.gossamer.org/cgi-bin/read.cgi?MourningAfter.Method) by Haphazard Method

Half a World Away (http://www.iyam-fic.com/ratales/halfaworldaway.html) by Jane St. Clair

And, on a lighter note, Goober and the Czar (http://x-files.bytewright.com/arcGo/GooberNTheCzar.html) by DB Kate. You can't go wrong with Krycek/Pendrell slash!

wendelah1: Fox Mulder reading, text=reading is fundamental (reading is fundamental)

Welcome to the community! You are welcome to comment on anything we have read before. We will add your recs into the queue. If they are all short, then we may do some during the short fic-a-day week. This is good. I like the variety there. Krycek/Pendrell slash sounds funny from the get-go.

Okay, I looked through my "best of the best" folder for shorties, and Penumbra's Black Hole Season (http://krycek.gossamer.org/display.php?BlackHoleSeason.Penumbra) has to be on there. A personal favorite of mine is also the feel-good Spectacular (http://krycek.gossamer.org/display.php?Spectacular.Rafferty) by Rafferty.

I have a couple of suggestions if you are still short of ideas. Your Platonic Relationship: An Owner's Manual by [livejournal.com profile] nandamai, In the Clearing by Maria Nicole, Beige Wall by Geb, or The Mill by [livejournal.com profile] cofax. Oh and Four Corners by M. Sebasky. One more: Night Giving Off Flames 1/2 and 2/2by JET. It might be a little bit over the limit, at 52K.
