This story was nominated by [livejournal.com profile] write_out but it's one of my favorites now, too. Confession time: the first time I read it, I thought Mulder was being a little whiny. But I love him better now, so it's all good. Tesla's writing is smooth as silk and no one writes a better Mulder voice. Enjoy!

NEW: "Get Up, Mulder"
Author: Tesla
Rating: PG-13 for language
Keyword: MSR, spooning, post-movie

Summary: Mulder recalls the trip back

Spoilers: To "Fight the Future"

Mod note: It says "MSR" but I think it's noromo friendly.

Now I really need to give [livejournal.com profile] tesla321 her own tag. Seriously, is there anything of hers we haven't read? See, we do use the suggestions from our nomination post, so go suggest some more, please.

Read "Get Up, Mulder".

Me too, me too. That is, I'm shallow part of the time.

I think one must make a firm distinction here between inner and outer life. People simply do not act on everything they think; they winnow and decide. We all are people, we all function like this, it's instinctive and we forget we do it but we do it ALL THE TIME. I think Mulder is plenty sensitive. I don't think he cares about interior decor but I'm sure he can tell chiffon from chenille (breeding will tell) and I see plenty of evidence that he is aware of the feelings of others, if only to defend himself. We also have evidence that he is kind and that he would defend his partner against an entire universe.

But. I too think he is a guy. I think that, like all young, straight guys, the first thing he decides when perceiving a woman is: fuckable, not fuckable. The second thing, if the first is positive, is do something? or don't. I think M went through that exact thought process when he met Scully for the first time. Of course it led nowhere because he had already decided not to approach this woman sexually because she was probably out to get him. Later he considered her untouchable for other reasons: she was his partner, his buddy, he didn't want to hazard that precious connection. But I have no doubt that his first, forgotten thought when looking at this sweet, ambitious little redhead was yes. Extremely fuckable.

I like that Mulder is a guy. It means he is controlling a lot of masculine instinct and acculturation and he gets extra credit for that. I like that he plays basketball, watches porn, gets the dirty jokes he might not make, has a penis.

And, going back to that lying wounded on a cold stone floor thing, he is dreaming about grabbing some ass. He is not doing it, he is not even thinking it, he is dreaming it. in his dreams he is all guy. But he still loves and respects his partner. He gets credit for that.

(On a ridiculously other subject, does anyone remember a Flanders and Swann satire that refers to "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" as "Dog on a Cold Stone Floor." I do and it keeps pulling my brain off-topic.)

This is fun. I think we should reconsider all our old fics. I never got a chance to comment on Oyster.
