How about a game while I sort out what to say about Suture's fic and what to post next? This was posted at ropo and of course, Tumblr.

Some of the squares are easy: "Plotless Smut" and "Convenient Mistletoe." I can think of fics for those right off the top of my head. But you're going to have to help me out with a couple of them. What does "French" mean? Like, Mulder and Scully are...French? And how about, "Aah...ahhh!" Is that supposed to be a line of dialogue or what? I am assuming "Manhood" is a euphemism.

This is the response I got at DW from sarken:

"French" in fic bingo definitely means just that -- random French! Or, for that matter, random any language other than the one the author and characters share. It's more romantic if your character starts speaking in French or Italian or what have you, and even the dullest title is more exciting if it's translated into another language. It's a thing, and a thing 14-year-old me was definitely guilty of, no less.

It was easy to find TXF fic with French titles, also German and Latin. Yes, I think written by a Frenchwoman should count!

Are you still interested in doing "Syntax and Measure"?

Is the "Mulder She Wrote" forum being run by the same person? Because I cannot abide her attitude.

Random French! Good category!

I'm afraid I've let my reformating of Syntax and Measure fall by the wayside. Sorry! Yes I am still interested and will finish the formating at some point, but I doubt it will be before mid July? I won't have time for any long fic until then. RL has been and will continue to keep me extremely busy the next few months.

I don't know who was running the forum on TWOP. The mod on the Previously TV is someone called David. I never noticed any particuliar attitude issues on TWOP, then again I didn't hang out there that much. All I know is that the folks over there were always nice to me. *shrugs*

The mod at Mulder She wrote liked to give out warnings, and according to some friends of mine, she loved to use her ban hammer on people who displeased her. She didn't like discussion about anything other than fanfic, so heaven forbid, if your post contained a word about the show itself, she'd warn you for going "off-topic." She sent me a warning for posting a rec that included, among several others for xf_santa, one of my own stories. By contrast, Aloysia made a self-rec a week or so earlier and received nothing but praise (I know because I emailed her to ask after I got my warning). I took from this that I wasn't among the privileged few and decided to vamoose for good. I lurked there a long time ago to read the recs.

I'm sure you were treated nicely because you're a well-known, very well-thought of writer. I am---no one special.

But on another note, I do know what you're saying about the MSW board. There did seem to be a fairly substantial degree of favoritism there.

Thanks. Everyone who participates in fandom is special. Fandom itself is special. Re: MSW I'd have thought I'd earned the benefit of the doubt--but apparently not. I actually had no idea TWP was corporate-owned until the announcement was made that it was closing.

Now that I know that random French counts, I think discussing Proust could work. But the foreign language itself must appear in the title or somewhere in the body of the work. I will leave it to you to check that detail. ♥

I keep thinking there's a scene somewhere in one of Khyber's fics in which characters speak in French, but I'm probably confusing it with another fic.

David is Glark :) I'm still getting used to Previously TV. They seem to moderate a lot more relaxedly (is that a word?) than at TWOP, where tone could be an issue (I never got banned but I think I was warned for a Prison Break post. I'M STILL MAD ABOUT THAT CHARACTER DEATH I WILL NOT BE SILENCED). I mostly lurk though, with the occasional impassioned character defense.
